“Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity” Key Message
ZESTAs’ (Zero Emission Ship Technology Association) Secretary General, Madadh MacLaine, announced that International Maritime Organization’s Arsenio Dominguez will open ZESTAs’ ShipZERO30 HyWindships Conference on September 16th at IMO Headquarters.
The goal of the conference is to explore the many successes in developing and deploying hydrogen and wind technologies to achieve zero emissions, and how these technologies can be scaled to meet the maritime industry’s goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
“We are honored that Secretary-General Dominguez has chosen to deliver the opening keynote,” stated MacLaine. “His message of ‘Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity’ needs to resonate with industry at this critical juncture. There is no more powerful voice to communicate that message than the Secretary-General, and we will be sustaining that message throughout our conference proceedings.”
Secretary-General Dominguez said: “IMO’s 2023 GHG Strategy, along with the Net-Zero Framework set to be adopted in October, establish a pragmatic and clear course toward decarbonizing international shipping. IMO Member States are committed to both cutting emissions and ensuring resilient maritime transport, recognizing that our obligation to protect the ocean is our opportunity for innovation and sustainable solutions. Hydrogen and wind technologies are part of that opportunity, and initiatives like ShipZERO30 can help advance scalable, technically viable pathways forward.”
ZESTAs’ 5th ShipZERO30 “HyWindships – How to Achieve Absolute Zero in Transoceanic Shipping” event will move through the steps required to make this possible, from hydrogen supply to its use on the vessel and every step in between, focusing on combining wind and hydrogen and the electrical system efficiencies required to make this technology energetically/economically viable.
In addition to learning about available technologies to achieve absolute zero on ships, there will be a case study of the Port of Le Havre, panel discussions on finance, hydrogen, electrification, shipboard technologies and a shipowner panel responding to the information presented. The day will wrap up with a reception on the IMO Terrace.
Registration is required. For more information, go to ShipZERO.
