Geoquip Marine is set to begin geotechnical surveys in the northern portion of the Vineyard Wind Lease Area around 20 May.
The geotechnical data acquisition company will be conducting surveys from its vessel Geoquip Saentis for four to six weeks.
Geoquip Marine Group carried out a geotechnical survey campaign for Vineyard Wind LLC in 2018 with its geotechnical drilling vessel Dina Polaris. During that campaign, Geoquip did seabed and downhole cone penetration testing, with seismic testing, and downhole sampling.
Vineyard Wind LLC, a joint venture between Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Avangrid Renewables, is developing the the 800 MW Vineyard Wind ONE off the coast of Massachusetts.
The offshore wind farm will comprise 84 MHI Vestas 9.5 MW wind turbines sited approximately 14 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard and 35 miles off the coast of the Massachusetts mainland.
The project is scheduled to receive a Record of Decision (ROD) from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) in December 2020, after a previous delay in the process.
Vineyard Wind planned to begin project construction in 2019 and have the wind farm operational by 2022.
A detailed analysis is now under way to review and align project plans and activities with the new timeline, according to Iberdrola, Avangrid’s parent company.
