Award Presented at 13th SHIPPINGInsight Fleet Optimization & Innovation Conference
The prestigious SHIPPINGInsight Innovation Award for 2024 was presented to Danielle Southcott, Founder and CEO of Veer.Voyage, on November 20that the 12th SHIPPINGInsight Fleet Optimization & Innovation Conference. Veer.Voyage is the first clean container ship to cross the ocean. Danielle was one of six new technologies presenting to a panel of investor and shipowner “Sharks” at SHIPPINGInsight’s annual US conference, held this year in New York City.
“To solve shipping’s thorniest challenges, we need to look at how we provide transportation services differently,” stated SHIPPINGInsight’s Chief Evolution Officer Carleen Lyden Walker. “Veer Voyages reimagines how shipping can continue to serve the global economy while mitigating environmental impacts, which is a huge step forward for our industry.”
Each year, the award is given to recognize new technologies (“Chum”) who have achieved success in creating and executing an innovative initiative that pushes the boundaries of ship and fleet optimization objectives. The winner is chosen by the “Sharks” through their “investment” in the various technologies presented in the SHARK TANK. Veer.Voyage received $17million in “investment” followed by Fleet Robotics at $13million.
“The global maritime industry recognizes its need to decarbonize- but not how” observed Ms. Southcott. “We are providing them with a zero emission option to meet this need to decarbonize. Receiving recognition in the form of SHIPPINGInsight’s Innovation Award reinforces the reality of tomorrow’s solutions today!”
This year’s judges (“Sharks”) included Shark Wrangler, Evangelos Efstathiou of Burmester & Vogel, TMV’s Marina Hadjipateras, Birgit Liodden of TOOL, Marine Money’s Jonathan Chia, Caitlin Hardy of NESS and ABS’ David Walker.
