SHIPPINGInsight’s SHARK TANK Debuts New Technology

SHIPPINGInsight will host its world renowned SHARK TANK at its conference on November 20th at the Westin Times Square, bringing new technologies to the attention of the maritime community. Led by Burmester & Vogel’s Evangelos Efstathiou, the SHARKS who will be evaluating and “investing” their $10million in the technologies include Marina Hadjipateras of TMV, Birgit Liodden of TOOL, Jonathan Chia of Marine Money, Caitlin Hardy of NESS and David Walker of ABS and MARAD’s US Center for Maritime Innovation.

For the past 6 years SHIPPINGInsight has held a SHARK TANK at SHIPPINGInsight to introduce new technologies to the maritime industry and its investors. About 80% of the technologies featured have either received funding or trials. For the past four years SHIPPINGInsight has also held a SHARK TANK at Posidonia in Athens with similar success.

This year’s new technology “chum” includes Signal Fusion’s Maria Kolitsida, TankerWise’s Katherine Mattikow, Veer Voyage’s Danielle Southcott, Sea Calm’s Pam Kern, Fleet Robotics’ Talia Zaverdinos, and EyeSea’s Marius Suteu. The technology that receives the most “investment” from the Sharks is declared the winner of SHIPPINGInsight’s 2024 Innovation Award.

SHIPPINGInsight’s 2024 conference, entitled “Solutions Through Innovation: Bringing Good Ideas to Reality” features presentations on the maritime state of play, geopolitical framework from the NATO perspective, and the implications on the US elections on maritime. The day will begin with a WISTA Breakfast featuring Women Entrepreneurs.

Further viewpoints will be offered on challenges facing the industry from the commercial, financial, bunkering, security and workforce arenas. Led by ABS’ Keegan Plaskon, the discussion will incorporate the views of Navios’ Fred Gordon, Ardmore Shipping’s Bart Kellaher, Transparensea Fuel’s Margaret Doyle, MAR’s RDML James Watson and SUNY Maritime College’s RADM John Okon. This will be followed by presentations on solutions, a shipowner/port roundtable followed by a focus on innovation, which will feature information on MARAD’s US Maritime Innovation Center.

Additional elements include the North American launch of TOOL, a networking platform for ocean technology and investors, ending with SHIPPINGInsight’s world renowned SHARK TANK.

SHIPPINGInsight’s conference is part of New York Maritime Days, which includes an event hosted on November 19th by MAPONYNJ on Alternative Fuels, Marine Money on November 21st and NAMEPA’s Regions event on November 22nd.
