EIA consultation period opens for Danish nearshore wind farms

The Danish Energy Agency (DEA) has launched the public consultation period regarding the new environmental impact assessment (EIA) reports for the Vesterhav Syd and Vesterhav Nord nearshore wind farms.

Interested parties are free to submit responses and comments on the new environmental impact reports no later than 30 June.

The DEA expects to be able to grant the EIA permits in September or October, so Vattenfall can begin project construction as soon as possible.

According to the agency, the wind farms must be connected to the grid by 31 December 2023 in accordance with the concession agreement with Vattenfall.

To remind, Vattenfall had initially planned to start offshore construction on Vesterhav Syd and Nord in 2019 and planned the commissioning in 2020.

However, early last year, the DEA started a new EIA process for the projects due to a cancelation of a part of the construction licenses following several appeals.

Vattenfall has since requested that the deadline for the commissioning of the two wind farms be moved to 2023 and has canceled a number of tenders related to the projects.

Vesterhav Syd and Vesterhav Nord will comprise a total of 41 Siemens Gamesa 8.4 MW turbines with a combined capacity of 344.4 MW.
