LNG giant Qatargas said it recently delivered the first cargo on a Q-Flex carrier to the Adriatic import terminal in Italy.
The Adriatic LNG terminal received the shipment from the 216,000-cbm Tembek on June 21.
The Qatargas-chartered and Nakilat-owned carrier previously loaded the cargo at Qatar’s Ras Laffan mega LNG complex.
The world’s first offshore gravity-based LNG import terminal is located 14 kilometers offshore of Porto Levante in the northern Adriatic.
Connected to the Italian national distribution network, the facility has a capacity of 8 billion cubic metres of LNG per year.
This equals to about half the total Italian LNG import capacity.
The facility currently supplies over 10% of the country’s natural gas requirements.
The terminal is a joint venture consisting of ExxonMobil (70%), Qatar Petroleum (23%), and Snam (7%).
